Violence in northern Myanmar worries US

The United States reiterated its concerns about the escalating violence in the northern states of Myanmar, Kachin and Shan, and reports of abuses against civilians.
In a statement released late Monday, the US Embassy in Yangon said continued conflict undermines the trust necessary to achieve a durable peace, and disproportionately affects the lives of innocent civilians and the thousands of IDPs forced from their homes.
"We continue to call for restraint from all sides and urge immediate, unfettered humanitarian access to all those affected by conflict throughout the country. The US Embassy urges all sides to cease hostilities so that the important effort to achieve peace can move forward," it said.
