Plan to develop historical site into ecotourism attraction

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is planning to develop the historical Klong Ong Ang site as an ecotourism attraction, Deputy Bangkok Governor Jakkaphan Phiew-ngarm said Thursday.

The plan relies on the government’s approval to spend Bt325.4 million improving the landscape and overall environment of the 1.5-kilometre-long Klong Ong Ang to develop an ecotourism attraction and recreational location for the public.
He said the city planned to build a dam, improve all five bridges along the canal, build a walkway underneath the bridges, improve the drainage system, install a wastewater treatment system to clean the canal water, and restore surrounding houses and buildings in line with the Rattanakosin-era site conservation.
He said the project was expected to begin next year and be completed by the end of the year or early 2018.
