First of ‘seven New Year dangerous days’ see 42 killed in road accidents

The first of the seven days for monitoring road accidents for New Year holidays saw 524 road accidents happen, killing 42 people and injuring 565 others.

The figures were announced at the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department by Public Health Ministry permanent secretary Sophon Mekthon in his capacity as deputy chairman of road safety centre.
Sophon said drunk driving was the main cause of the accidents on the first day of the so-called seven dangerous New Year days. He said 58.21 per cent of the accidents happened on the main roads and highways.
