Lower South warned of heavy rains

The Meteorological Department Monday issued a warning for residents of six southern provinces to brace themselves for heavy downpours.

In its urgent statement issued at 5 am Monday, the department said a rather strong high pressure from China is now covering Thailand and the South China Sea and the high pressure together with a strong northeast monsoon across the Gulf and the South will trigger heavy to torrential rains in six provinces from Monday to Wednesday.
The six provinces are Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
The department said flash flood and mudslides could follow the heavy downpours.
The department added that strong winds over the lower Gulf generate waves up to 2-3 meters high so people living along the Gulf should beware of inshore surges. The department advised small boats keep ashore until Wednesday.
