Asean to discuss South China Sea, Rohingya in the Philippines

Asean senior officials gather on Monday in the Philippines’s resort island of Boracay to prepare for their foreign ministers' retreat and other series of meeting for the entire year.

Foreign ministers of the group is scheduled to have an informal meeting — known in Asean jargon as AMM Retreat — on Tuesday.
The senior officials on Monday would wrap up their works and plan what the Asean has to deal with for the whole year of 2017 which is the 50th anniversary of the regional grouping.
They also prepare issues and ideas on the contentious South China Sea, which many members including the Philippines are at loggerhead with giant partner China for years.
The issue of Rohingya in Myanmar’s Rakhine state is also in their concern, according to a Filipino official.
