Watchdog calls for closer look at NLA member absences

The Internet Law Reform Dialogue (iLaw) watchdog has called on the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) to examine attendance of NLA members at law deliberations, as it believes more are being posted absent from meetings.

The non-profit organisation earlier released figures showing at least seven NLA members, including Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s brother, General Preecha Chan-o-cha, exceeded the number of permitted absences from NLA law deliberation meetings last year.
It insisted that from the beginning its statistics were based on the number of votes following the house’s regulations, not days, as suggested by NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai Pornpetch.
NLA members receive a salary of Bt 113,560, excluding attendance fees.
The NLA’s work ethics panel will now set up a sub panel to find evidence to determine whether the seven members breached regulations.
