Be happy and progressive, PM tells journos

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Sunday marked Thai Journalist Day by calling on journalists to be happy, progressive and creative.

“Please help each other build Thailand as a learning and wise society,” Prayut said. “I also believe there are many good media here.”
With his up-and-down emotions, Prayut has good and bad moments with Government House reporters. He once joked that “reporters who report falsely should be executed”.
Limitations against reporters imposed by the ruling junta have occurred. Once reporters were restricted to asking only four questions to the premier, while journalist Pravit Rojanaphruk was detained twice – once in 2014 and again in 2015.
The proposed media regulation bill would allow high-ranking ministerial officers to take part in issuing or revoking media licences.
Thai Journalist Day is celebrated on March 5 every year to mark the establishment of the Thai Journalists Association.
