Ex-prison inmate arrested for stealing jar of ‘pla ra’ from house

A former prison inmate in Chiang Rai was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a jar of “pla ra”, or northeastern traditional fermented fish, after breaking into a house.

Natthapong Sriboonruang, 30, was quickly arrested by police just 500 metres from the house after neighbours alerted police.
He also allegedly stole a pot and some bowls from the kitchen of the house in Moo 9 village in Tambon Vieng in Chiang Rai’s Chiengsaen district.
He also allegedly left his excrement in front of the house, a practice that is part of a notorious local superstition among burglars after committing a crime.
Natthapong, who had previously been convicted of theft, said he had no job after his release from jail. According to police, he said he noticed there was no one in the house, so he broke in.
