Man arrested for using Facebook to organise road racing

A man has been arrested for allegedly using his Facebook wall to organise motorcycle road racing in Bangkok.

Patrol and Special Operation Division (191) commander Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpal held a press conference at 2.30am to announce the arrest of Wichitpong Leh-aroon, 28. The conference was held after 191 patrol police had completed their mission of intercepting the youngsters who had attempted to race their modified bikes on the streets of Bangkok.
Surachet said Wichitpong was arrested on Friday at Areana Gardens housing estate on Serithai Road in Ram-Indra sub-district in Bangkok’s Khannayao district.
Police sought a warrant for his arrest after receiving complaints that youngsters had been racing on Serithai Road in the Buengkum and Bangchan areas. Investigations revealed that Witchitpong had allegedly been using his Facebook wall to challenge youngsters to race against his modified motorcycle.
Police later checked Wichitpong’s house in Bangkok’s Nong Chok district and arrested his brother, Arunpon, 24, after two litres of kratom solution was found in the house. He was charged with selling the drug.
During the operation on Friday night, police detained 20 youngsters aged under 18 and one 21-year-old man for riding modified bikes with the alleged intention to race on roads. Their motorbikes were confiscated.
