A motorcycle taxi driver, who went to the area to fish, alerted authorities when he noticed a steel pipe with some attached wires.
Police and an explosive ordnance disposal team went to the area about 2pm and after examining the pipe for more than an out they left without giving any details.
“We can’t say what it is exactly. We need to conduct further examinations,” Pol Colonel Arkom Chantalach said.
A source said the pipe, which was about eight inches long and four inches wide, contained a detonator and wires.
“It’s just that we can’t confirm … whether it is ready to explode,” the source said.
The suspected pipe bomb was found about 100 metres from the Kalasee Restaurant on the Ratchadapisek Road.
Last week, a pipe bomb exploded at the Phramongkutklao hospital in Bangkok, injuring 25 people.
