Health bill opponents continue to put up resistance in Bangkok

Opponents of the National Health Security Bill on Sunday lay down outside the door to the venue of the last public hearing on the draft law in Bangkok to prevent others from backing the proposed legal amendment.

At press time, there are very few people at the public hearing

If passed, this bill will replace the current National Health Security Act and affect the universal healthcare scheme.
Opponents have refused to join the public hearing, saying they do not want to join the process of rubber stamping the bill. They also do not believe the public-hearing process will take into account their concerns.
On Saturday, a similar public hearing in Khon Kaen province had to be called off because opponents of the bill stormed the stage.
But in Bangkok, there is heavy presence of soldiers and policemen at the venue to prevent such a scenario repeating itself.
