Express train damaged after hitting tree in Surin

An express train was damaged after it hit a tree that had fallen on the track in Surin province late on Sunday night.

The Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani express train hit the tree about 10.30pm, shortly after the train left Lam Chi-Nong Teng Station in Surin.
The train driver said he did not see a tree.
Officials said heavy rain caused the tree to uproot.
The front of the train was damaged and windows in the first and second sleeping coaches were broken.
Officials used a train from Buri Ram province to transfer passengers to their destinations as the damaged train could not be used.
The transfer operation took about five hours.
When the track was cleared, services for the northeastern route resumed.
