Sakon Nakhon airport to remain closed until 9pm

The Sakon Nakhon International Airport will remain closed until 9pm on Saturday as one of its taxiways is still under water, the chief of the Airports Department announced.

Darun Saengchai, director-general of the Airports Department, made the announcement after he and his deputy, Somkiart Maneesathit, along with a delegation from the department inspected the airport on Saturday morning.
Earlier, the department had announced that the airport would remain closed from 3pm on Friday until 3pm on Saturday after the airport was flooded following heavy rains caused by the influence of storm Sonca.
After the inspection, Darun held a meeting with Sakon Nakhon airport director Tippayawan Wangsanuwat and other officials to assess the situation.
The department announced that Taxiway A was still under water hence the airport would remain closed until 9pm or further notice.
The officials will hold another meeting in the afternoon to assess the situation. The meeting will be chaired by Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith and will be attended by Sakon Nakhon governor Witthaya Chanchalong.
The department announced that as Nok Air had cancelled its DD9402/03 flights from Don Mueang to Sakon Nakhon and from Sakon Nakhon back to Don Mueang on Saturday, the airline is flying two extra flights in the neighbouring province of Nakhon Phanom.
The department said the Highways Department would dispatch officials to fix the road to the airport.
The department said passengers could contact the AirAsia counter at the Nakhon Phanom International Airport at 042-531-571 and Nok Air counter at 042-531-525, or contact Nakhon Phanom PR office at 042-531-586 around the clock.
