Following a police investigation that learned that a large batch of illicit drugs would be smuggled through the Thai-Myanmar border area of Tambon Koh Chang in Mae Sai at around 1am on Sunday, officers set up a checkpoint. They spotted a suspicious grey Honda sedan with a Bangkok licence plate.
When officers signalled the driver to pull over for a search, the sedan sped through the checkpoint. Officers gave chase in a pickup truck. As they drove past Ban Sansai School, the sedan driver threw out a sack in a bid to throw the officers off the chase, but the police truck continued pursuit.
The sack was later found by the back-up police team to contain 40,000 yaba pills.
Unable to shake police off its tail, the sedan turned into Wa Muang Daeng alley.
Two men ran down the dark alley and disappeared.
Officers found several more sacks in the sedan containing another 200,000 yaba pills.
Police passed the drugs and the suspect's sedan to Mae Sai police for further action.
