Supporting Thailand’s move toward sustainable energy future under the Thailand 4.0 policy will be one discussion theme at the Asia Power Week 2017, as it celebrates the exhibition’s 25th confab.
Event organiser Nigel Blackaby sees a strong renewable energy future in Asean which “has great potential in becoming the global leader in alternative energy production, especially in the solar power segment.” Asean’s “geographically blessed countries like Thailand enjoy a large amount of sunlight and many are starting to put these resources to use”.
Blackaby notes that with installed power-generating capacity of 2,768 megawatts, “Thailand is already the largest producer of solar energy in Southeast Asia.
“Thailand will be an out-performer in the Southeast Asia region in terms of total installed renewables capacity over the coming decade.”
Under to Thailand’s Power Development Plan 2015-2035 and Energy 4.0, the government aims to improve power system reliability by reducing dependence on natural gas power generation and shifting to alternative energy sources like biomass, biogas, wind and solar power.
The event takes place at Bitec on September 19-21.
