Eight workers arrested for stealing TOT data cables in Trang

Eight workers of a private firm hired by the Provincial Electricity Authority have been arrested for stealing expensive data cables in Trang’s Palian district.

The eight were arrested late Sunday night while stealing a cable belonging to the state-owned telecommunications company, TOT Public Company Ltd, on Trang-Palian road in Ban Khun Khupriun in Tambon Tha Kham.
TOT officials who were monitoring a data centre in the southern province were alerted of a breakdown in the data cable at the location. They sought help from police, who and found some workers were climbing power poles to cut the cable.
Some of the suspects tried to flee but all were captured.
The eight were identified as Anon Jabpla, 25, Orapin Mainoi, 33, Supol Waldee, 20, Noi (not real name), 15, Wuthichai Khuchit, 26, Witthaya Yahob, 27, Kittsak Moomthong, 27, and Suraporn Waldee (age not known).
The suspects work for M-Reach Engineering Co Ltd, which has been contracted to install power cables in Trang.
Police said the workers had stolen TOT data cables seven times in the two months that they have been employed.
Police said they would check and take legal actions against shops that bought the stolen cables.
