Police commended for ‘highly satisfactory performance’ in funeral period

National police deputy chief General Dechnarong Suticharnbancha on Friday praised police officers for performing their duties in providing security, keeping order and directing traffic so that Thursday’s Royal Cremation Ceremony could proceed without major problems.

Officers delivered “highly satisfactory performance” reflecting the months of careful planning, said Dechnarong. He attributed success to their heartfelt commitment to ensure the success of the historic event honouring HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Officers will continue to perform related duties until October 29 when the final rites are concluded, he added.
Dechnarong also said that all roads had been re-opened for normal use.
On Sunday (October 29), the sixth and final procession would see the cavalry unit conveying a royal limousine carrying the royal ashes. It will travel from Phra Si Rattana Chedi in Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram to Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram, and then to Wat Bowonniwet Vihara. The two temples have become symbolic of King Rama IX.
Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan is scheduled to preside over an October 30 meeting of all related units to conclude the work results from the five-day Royal Cremation Ceremony period, Dechnarong said.
