Load of pigs burned to death in Sa Kaew truck fire
About 100 pigs heading to a slaughterhouse were burned to death in a fire that engulfed a truck on a road in Sa Kaew’s Khao Chakan district on Friday morning.
Truck driver Somporn Denchanthuek, 48, said he watched helplessly as the pigs inside the cages wailed in agony while perishing in the fire, unable to save any of them.
Police said the accident happened at 4am on the Sa Kaew-Chanthaburi Road in Tambon Khao Chakan of Khao Chakan district.
Somporn said he took the pigs from a farm at 3am, heading to a slaughterhouse in Sa Kaew. He said one of his truck’s rear tyres caught fire, apparently because of a malfunctioning brake system.
The fire quickly engulfed the truck, prompting him to exit the vehicle and call for help.
Local resident Boonlert Plaewploeng said he was woken by the wailing sounds of the pigs at 4am. He was too troubled by the scene to go back to sleep, he said.
