Phra Sompong Attamo, 60, who has been in the monkhood at Wat Na Jomthien for 11 years, said he could not collect enough alms to feed the animals, let alone buy vaccines for them.
The monk said he had rescued some of the strays from roads and others had been abandoned by their owners.
He added that laypersons sometimes donated animal food to the temple but it was still inadequate.
He said most of the dogs and cats had been sterilised, except those that had been recently abandoned. He added that he would welcome adoptions of the animals.
