Anucha Damrongmanee, acting director of Pinkanakorn Development agency that runs the zoo, introduced the tapir calf to the public at 10.30 am.
He said the calf is named Nam Ping after a major river in Chiang Mai.
Anucha said Nam Ping is healthy and will be put on a show in the Jaguar Trail section of the zoo. The baby tapir can be seen on the natural track from 11am onward.
He said the Chiang Mai Night Safari is the only zoo in Thailand to successfully breed Brazilian tapirs. It was born to a male Brazilian tapir named, Nga Dam, 14, and a female one named Khao Klong, 16.
