Three people were killed and 12 wounded by a gunman who opened fire on shoppers at the Christmas Market in Strasbourg, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said early Wednesday.

Earlier the city's mayor, Roland Ries, had given a toll of "four dead and a dozen wounded".
