Young Thai entrepreneurs all set to discuss trade with Malaysia

The Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) has organised discussions between Thai entrepreneurs and their Malaysian counterparts this month, hoping to promote cross-border trade via southern Thailand.

DFT director-general Adul Chotinisakorn said his department is following the government’s policy of promoting trade and investment with neighbouring countries, especially Malaysia in the south.
“The department will take Thai entrepreneurs to Kuala Lumpur from September 13 to 16 to participate in trade negotiations with Malaysian businessmen,” he said. “This activity is part of the Young Entrepreneur Network Development Plus Programme, or YEN-D Plus.”
Adul explained that 50 young Thai entrepreneurs will take part in the YEN-D Plus programme, while more than 100 Malaysian entrepreneurs have expressed their interest in participating.
“Moreover, representatives of Thai companies that are highly successful in Malaysia will join the event to provide tips and useful information about doing business in that country,” he said. “These companies are Central Pattana, Bangkok Bank and PK Agro-Industrial Products (M), which is a subsidiary of Charoen Pokphand Foods.”
The director-general believed this programme would help the young Thais penetrate new markets in neighbouring countries and promote cross-border trading and investment.
“The previous YEN-D activity was organised in Indonesia back in March, and it was a huge success,” Adul said. “There were more than 120 participants and over a dozen trade deals were accomplished.”
