The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) on December 18 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japan's Dowa Eco-System Co Ltd (DES) for the fluorocarbons (FCs) management project of the Ministry of the Environment.

The signing is related to the Japan government's help in improving the treatment of FC substances (CFCs, HCFC and HFCs), said IEAT governor Somjin Piluek.
The project is expected to reduce FCs emission by 219 tonnes a year through the recollection of FC substances from freezers and air conditioners. The release of greenhouse gas will be lowered by using the fluidised bed incinerators in Bangpoo Industrial Estate.
IEAT is collaborating with public and private partners for the project. The Customs Department recently handed over 130 tonnes of smuggled FCs for the project’s experiments while Waste Management Siam Co helped with transportation of the substances to the incinerators for disposal.
