Financial institutions told to put off Songkran holidays

The Bank of Thailand today (March 18) announced cancellation of the annual Songkran holidays, scheduled April 13-15, for financial institutions .

   The central bank’s move came following the Cabinet's  decision to postpone  the water- splashing  festival and all related activities .   The government has also ordered  the closures of  entertainment venues in Bangkok for 14 days  to stem the spread of Covid-19. 
    The central bank said financial institutions will be allowed to take substitute  holidays at later dates . The number of Covid-19 infections in Thailand has risen to 212 cases,  following a spike  in recent days.
