Anutin checks in on 42 illegal migrants being treated for Covid-19

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the immigration quarantine centre in Songkhla’s Sadao district on Thursday (April 30) to check on the 42 illegal migrants who contracted Covid-19 and to offer encouragement to the medics looking after them.
The 42, who had contracted the virus from an immigration officer who visited them in their detention centre, are being looked after in an open-air field hospital because moving the patients will be too complicated, doctors say.
“These patients are being well looked after by local administration staff and public health officials, and there is constant monitoring for new infections. Treatment will be immediately provided if any symptoms are detected,” the minister said.
The minister also stopped by at the Sadao-Padang Besar checkpoint to monitor Thai returnees from Malaysia as well as provide face masks and hand sanitising gel to border officials.
