MCOT to get Bt3.2 billion in compensation for recalled spectrum

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has decided to give MCOT Bt3.2 billion in compensation for recalling its 2600-megahertz spectrum, which was valid until September 23, 2015.

The compensation is being calculated from February 16 this year, the date NBTC decided to recall the spectrum, to the validity of the licence.

The 2500-2690MHz frequency was recalled after NBTC decided to put 5G spectrum licences up for auction.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered an investigation after the MCOT labour union complained that MCOT was planning to pay half of the compensation to private contractor Playwork, which was contracted to provide TV services since 2010, but has made no progress.
