Cooking gas discounted for another 3 months

Cooking gas discounted for another 3 months

WEDNESDAY, June 17, 2020

The discount on household liquified petroleum gas (LPG) will be extended for another three months, the government announced on Wednesday (June 17).

The subsidy of Bt3 per kilo of household LPG was set by the Energy Ministry’s Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) in March to ease people’s financial burden during the Covid-19 outbreak. It will now remain in place until September.
The discount has knocked Bt45 off the Bt363 price of the standard 15kg canister used widely in household cooking.
The EPPO will use money from the Oil Fuel Fund to finance the subsidy.
Meanwhile, the discount of Bt3 per kilo of NGV (natural gas to fuel vehicles) will be extended to the end of July, but only for public transport operators of buses, taxis, vans, minibuses and tuk-tuks, etc.
“This move aims to reduce costs for public transport operators and facilitate people’s travel after the Covid-19 lockdown measures have been lifted nationwide,” said a government spokesperson.
