Thai businesses urged to tap China’s growing online market

The government is urging Thai businesses to increase exports by finding Chinese online channels to sell their products. The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) has ordered directors of Thai Trade Centres in China to monitor development of local online platforms, and also find new ways to promote Thai products in China to increase exports.

"Chinese online platforms play an important role in the Chinese market because the number of online shopping platforms and smartphone applications there is increasing significantly," said Somdet Susomboon, DITP director-general.
"Therefore, this is an opportunity for Thai entrepreneurs to promote their products via online channels."
Suppara Seakacharn, director of the Thai Trade Centre in Guangzhou, said the number of Chinese smartphone app users is expected to reach 900 million people this year.
"Smartphone applications popular among Chinese people are Wechat, QQ, and Weibo," she said. "These apps represent new marketing channels to promote Thai products, in addition to online and social media platforms."
She advised Thai entrepreneurs to use online channels to introduce their products and boost sales, because Chinese consumers are paying more attention to online platforms since the Covid-19 outbreak emerged.
"Sales activities likely to be boosted by moving to these channels include live sales, reward-based promotions, and e-voucher giveaways," she added.
"Also, we advise Thai entrepreneurs to use or adapt Chinese government projects designed to help their citizens – especially online platforms – to increase sales."
