Five-year water management plan being drafted for Pasak Basin

Five-year water management plan being drafted for Pasak Basin

The Office of National Water Resource (ONWR) and the Pasak Basin Development Commission are drawing up a five-year development plan, which will be submitted to the next meeting of the National Water Resource Commission for approval, Somkiat Prajamwong, the ONRW secretary-general, said.

“The Pasak Basin covers the seven provinces of Loei, Phetchabun, Chaiyaphum, Lopburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Ratchasima and Ayuthaya,” he said. “The development plan will consist of 19 projects to be executed in the areas from 2021 to 2027, and will be a part of the 20-year water resource management plan in the central and northeastern regions.”
Somkiat added that the highlighted projects would cover the expansion of the Provincial Waterworks Authority in Phetchabun, the maintenance of Pasak Jolasid Dam in Lopburi, the Kaem Ling (monkey cheek) projects in Suphanburi and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces and the flood prevention plan along the Pasak River in Phetchabun.
“The office and the commission will also together explore the areas that are prone to flooding in the Pasak Basin to estimate the risk of floods during rainy seasons in the next five years and prepare related agencies in flood prevention and evacuation,” he added.
“We will be open for suggestions from government agencies, local administration organisations and local communities and will finish the draft by the end of August. The plan is expected to be approved by September when it will be executed immediately.”
