Amazing Thailand Grand Sale’ to boost tourism spending after lockdown

The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects its two-month shopping campaign to generate Bt100 million in tourist spending, helping the industry to recover after the Covid-19 lockdown.

The “Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2020 – Non-Stop Shopping” will run from July 15 to September 15 to boost at least 10,000 tourism-related businesses affected by the pandemic, said Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT deputy governor for Tourism Products and Business (TAT).
The campaign will offer a wide range of products from various industries at special prices.
TAT has invited over 10,000 shops and businesses across the country to join the campaign by offering special privileges to Thai and foreign residents throughout the two-month period in the tourism centres of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya and Hat Yai.
This year’s project will take an “Online to Offline” approach by distributing discount vouchers via its official LINE account (online) for shoppers to redeem at participating outlets (offline).
Weekly online sales for different products and services will be introduced to entice interest among shoppers throughout the two-month period.
Two “lucky days” will feature online giveaways and lucky draws. The "8.8 Happy Moment" campaign on August 8 will offer 4,100 vouchers worth Bt660,000 through online quiz games.
The “9.9 Get Lucky Number 9” campaign on September 9 will offer 20 gift vouchers worth Bt100,000 via online games on Facebook: Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2020.
TAT is also collaborating with online shopping platform Shopee to organise sales promotions from July 15 to August 31, to increase retail channels for participating entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile the UTU app will offer special privileges to collect and redeem points and give cash back to tourists using credit and debit cards.
Finally, 20 big prizes are up for grabs for participating shoppers, including domestic return flights with Thai AirAsia and THAI Smile, a Mitsubishi New Xpander Cross car, a holiday at Bandara Villas in Phuket, and gadgets worth over Bt1 million. The lucky draw will take place at the Conrad Bangkok Hotel on September 17.
