Third consecutive day of over 1,500 new Covid-19 cases, two fatalities

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Saturday reported 1,547 new cases, with two deaths.


The dead persons included a computer programmer, 38, in Tak province, and an office worker, 51, in Pathum Thani.


According to reports, the patient from Tak had visited Krystal Club – a source of cluster infection – in Bangkok's Thong Lor area on March 19.


The man died on Friday at Somdej Phrachao Taksin Maharat Hospital in Tak’s Muang district. He was also suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, Public Health Office deputy Ramet Wongvilairat said.


The victim in Pathum Thani who died on Thursday had contracted Covid-19 previously, and suffered from heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.


Over the past 24 hours, 90 patients have recovered and been discharged.


As of Saturday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 40,585. Of these, 37,353 were contracted locally, including 19,980 found via proactive testing, while 3,232 were returnees.


So far, 28,570 have recovered and been discharged, 11,916 patients are still in hospitals and 99 have died.


According to Worldometer, as of 11am on Saturday, the number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 140.51 million (up by 830,052) – 119.33 million have recovered, 18.17 million are active cases (107,017 in severe condition) and 3.01 million have died (up by 12,514).


Thailand ranks 111th on the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 32.3 million, followed by India 14.52 million, Brazil 13.84 million, France 5.22 million and Russia 4.68 million.


Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 13,374 people have been given their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine and 5,853 their second shot, bringing the total number of Covid vaccines administered in Thailand to 605,259.
