More rains forecast for upper Thailand, isolated heavy rains in the South


The monsoon trough lying across the lower North and the Northeast will bring more rain to upper Thailand with isolated heavy rains in the North, the Northeast and the East, according to Tuesdays weather forecast.

Meanwhile the strong southwest monsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand, would bring isolated heavy rains to the South, the Thailand Meteorological Department said.

Waves 2-4 metres high are expected in the Andaman Sea, and above four metres during thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore, the department said.

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone “Yaas” over the upper Bay of Bengal is expected to make landfall over upper India on May 26-27. It will intensify the southwest monsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand from May 25-29, the department said.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

North: Hot day with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the region; gusty winds and isolated heavy rains are possible in some areas; temperature lows of 23-28 degrees Celsius, highs of 30-36°C.

Northeast: Cloudy with thundershowers in 70 per cent of the region; gusty winds and isolated heavy rains are possible in some areas; temperature lows of 23-24°C, highs of 30-35°C.

Central: Hot day with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the region; gusty winds are possible in some areas; temperature lows of 25-27°C, highs of 33-37°C.

East: Cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the region with isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-28°C, highs of 30-34°C; waves two metres high and over two metres during thundershowers.

South (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-25°C, highs of 32-36°C; waves 1-2 metres high and two metres during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the region and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-27°C, highs of 29-33°C; waves 2-4 metres high and over four metres during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the province; temperature lows of 27-28°C, highs of 32-36°C.
