What Covid did to Thailand’s famous floating market

What Covid did to Thailand’s famous floating market

The bustle of boats and people has been replaced by eerie silence at Amphawa floating market, where Covid-19 turned the international tourist attraction into a ghost town more than a year ago.

The picturesque market in Samut Songkram is still open but deserted, with boats sitting beached and empty on the banks of the Mae Klong River.

Like an empty film set, it now awaits the return of tourist crowds who once thronged both sides of the river in search of local delicacies, produce and souvenirs.
