Not a licence to do as they please

Re: "Tolerance should be at the heart of a free society", Editorial, September 5.

Fully agree with your editorial. Since Yinkluck Shinawatra became prime minister, we have seen nothing but yapping from her red-shirt supporters and Chalerm Yoobamrung. All of them seem to think that now they have a licence to intimidate others and break all the rules. You cite several cases of assault and battery. This is only the beginning.

What disturbed me the most was Chalerm's outrageous dismissal of the former police chief, using the convenient but utterly lame excuse of incompetence. Chalerm himself epitomises this more than anyone else in Thailand today.

As Pheu Thai supporters grow bolder and bolder, they will eventually envelope all that is left of democracy in a cloud of totalitarianism. At some point, the democratic forces sitting on the sidelines - yellow shirts, multicolored shirts, the Army, will have had enough and they will rebel and toss yet another Shinawatra out of office.

I know we cannot rid our country of corruption. But at least we need to get rid of the worst, malignant parts.
