The government said that PETA was just trying to make money for themselves, and that their accusations were nothing but a publicity stunt.
As someone involved in animal rights for 25 years, I can say without a doubt that no one gets involved in animal rights to become rich. Not only have I never been paid for my involvement, but also I have put up thousands of dollars of my own money to support the cause.
But people in the tourist industry who profit from the torture of elephants can’t believe there are people such as Edwin Wiek, Lek Chailert of the Elephant Nature Park and people such as myself who fight for the animals simply because we’re kind people.
I don’t know if I should feel more sorry for the animals or for the people who are so devoid of humanity and human decency that they honestly believe that anyone who is kind is being paid off.
How do people reach such a level of depravity?
