RS Promotions won the three-year (2013-2015) broadcasting rights for Spain’s top league and are allowing the free TV’s Channels 7 to broadcast 12 big matches and Channel 8 to show one match every week from the start of next season in August.
“All platforms will feature the broadcasts of RS Sport La Liga, RS’s latest satellite TV channel. Our ‘new definition of pay TV’ concept will allow audiences to watch the games more easily, with more convenience, and at a fair price,’’ said RS Promotion CEO Surachai Chetchotisak.
Full coverage costs Bt100 per month via RS’s call centre at 1781.
The company aims to attract 200,000 subscribers for the first season and a total 800,000 by the end of the 2015 episode, aided by a Bt1-billion promotional budget.
The project is a joint effort with Spain’s Professional Football League, which is hoping to expand its fan base in Thailand, where the English Premier League is currently more popular.
“We hope to gather more support from fans in Asia as well as in Thailand,” said Carlos del Campo Colas, secretary general of Spain’s Professional Football League. “That’s why we have adjusted programmes to start earlier, with the first game at noon, which is more convenient for Asian fans.’’
The idea is to make watching a world-class league accessible more Thai fans, who can be put off by the Bt1,000-Bt2,000 fees for the Premier League, said Surachai.
“My theme is to bring premium quality to the mass market,’’ he said.
