Songdej Pradismanont accuses Meechai Burapa of being selective with historical facts in relation to the comparison between Pridi Banomyong and Thaksin, but I think Songdej is doing exactly the same. He states that Pridi had the opportunity to return home, but chose not to do so, in the cause of national unity. However, Pridi’s wish to return to Thailand towards the end of his life was frustrated by bureaucratic obfuscation, despite the fact that the then government of General Prem Tinsanulanonda had apparently granted permission. He was also not given a state funeral.
It is interesting how people can sometimes manipulate history to suit their particular point of view.
