Divisive right to the end

The unseemly street parties sparked by her death show that Margaret Thatcher, whose conviction politics thwarted consensus at every turn, remained divisive to the last.

Her funeral with military honours at St Paul’s Cathedral next week promises to provide a stirring display of pomp, ceremony and vestigial power. The great and the good will show up in force, while trade unionists may be a little thinner on the ground.
Somehow, I doubt that President Kirchner of Argentina will attend.
