It's all in the shorts

Directors, actors and actresses get together to launch the 2013 edition of 9FilmFest

The third Short Film Festival 2013, organised by The Style by Toyota and 9FilmFest, was launched recently at Siam Paragon Cineplex.
Each year, 9FilmFest has a signature item or theme that must be included in the films. In 2011, it was the number “9” while last year, the theme was “Heart”. This year, it’s “Waterway”, meaning that a moving body of water, be it a river, a stream or a canal, must make an appearance in the film.
This year’s jury is made up of prominent figures from the film industry among them actor Ananda Everingham, film critics Kong Rithdee and John Anderson plus directors Tanwarin Sukkhapisit, Prachya Pinkaew, Areeya Chumsai, Yuthana Boonorm and Adam Yukol.
The Style by Toyota is sponsoring a number of workshop activities that will see film directors offering tips and advice on making a short film.
The workshop programme gets underway today with Pop Areeya talking about how to shoot a documentary and 9FilmFest director Brian Bennett addressing rules of entry, guidelines and what it takes to be a finalist.
On July 13, the topic is “a great script makes a great film” and the speakers are directors Wych Kaosayananda and Prachya Pinkaew. On July 27, Adam Yukol, film director and founder of  FuKDuK Production, discusses the importance of pre-production while acting coach Kaprice Kea leads an acting workshop on July 31.
August’s sessions kick off on August 3 with “Teamwork is the key to success” featuring Wych. On August 7, the subject is “Best Film 1st prize 9FilmFest 2012” facilitated by Wattanapong Wongwan, who will present his experiences on writing, producing and directing his winning film “Video Call”. On August 10, Tanwarin Sukkhapisit, president of Thai Film Directors Association , leads a workshop on “Art of direction, role of director” featuring Tannia. On August 24, the team from Adobe Premiere Pro address the magic of film editing.
