Eric Bahrt shares John Arnone’s opinion of the prime minister, but in criticising her for not intervening on behalf of those red shirts languishing in jail without trial or bail, I think Mr Bahrt is being unreasonable, or perhaps somewhat naive. What exactly does he expect the premier to do? If she did seek to ease the plight of those still in custody, I suspect she would immediately be accused by her opponents and enemies of political interference in the judicial system.
It’s the system that has to be blamed, not the prime minister, and of course these detainees do not have the option of an all-expenses-paid holiday abroad while mummy and daddy sort everything out.
