I can see it coming. The government is still dazed after failing to pass the amnesty law. Anti-government protesters step up pressure with their “million-man” rally tomorrow. Violence breaks out in Bangkok and spreads to all provinces. For the Democrats the situation is ripe – but it’s not ripe for a military coup.
Out of patriotism, the Democrats petitioned the court to invoke Article 7 of the Constitution, which states vaguely: “Whenever no provision under this Constitution is applicable to any case, it shall be decided in accordance with the constitutional convention in the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State.”
Ha? No one knows what it means, so they ask the charter court for an interpretation. Bingo! The court can interpret whichever way it wants, including setting up an interim government led by, um, Abhisit Vejjajeva maybe?
Who’ll need a military coup when we’ve got a judicial one?
