“We love fashion. We love eyewear. And we love people. But what we don’t love are the ever-increasing prices people are being asked to pay for so-called ‘designer’ eyewear,” reads the blurb for Jaspal’s “V Eyewear”, a collection of imported specs that are guaranteed to please.
And it seems many Thais agree. The recent launch party for V Eyewear at hot bar and restaurant Badmotel on Thonglor was packed with celebrities trying on glasses as models armed with Polaroid cameras wandered around the venue taking shots of them. Guests were also treated to a screening of the line’s first advertisement by up-and-coming Japanese photographer Kengo Otake and featuring Prakarn Raiwa and Pusik Pattanaprakarn.
With specs as much of a lifestyle product as a necessity for the visually challenged, the new V Eyewear line is designed as an accessory that helps the wearer to see the world more clearly. The “V”, explains assistant managing director Viseth Singhsachathet, symbolises “Vision”, “Vie” (life) and “Value”.
Designed on the concept “Wear Your Independence”, the eyewear ranges in price from Bt3,250 to Bt3,950 with extra added for anyone requiring special or progressive lenses from Hoya.
The frames come in three styles: Standard, Classic, and Sun. Light and durable acetate from Italy adds to the luxury and makes the glasses comfortable to wear. The international standard lenses, such as the CR39 and Nylon lenses, can protect the eyes from UVA, UBA and light waves at the frequency of 400 nanometres or lower and are shockproof.
The Jaspal shop is on the second floor of CentralWorld and features an eyewear display made from wood, marble and acrylic decorated with leather bands. A vision testing room is off to one side.
