Richest clans are buying up Thailand

Re: "Taxing the rich: It's tough. That's why it must be done", Thai Talk, September 18.

I agree with Suthichai Yoon that the Prayuth Chan-ocha government should take up the challenge of taxing the country’s rich more, in order to create a more equitable society.
Enforcing inheritance and land taxes is difficult in normal times, when the rich are too powerful to budge. When the country is under a democratic system, money tends to rule, not reason.
The rich families of Thailand are the world’s most grabby and the world’s most stingy, rolled into one. A few of these clans compete with one another to grab land in every province. As a result, low-income farmers are being left landless, and fields that have been farmed for centuries are now going fallow.
The richest people should be taxed according to the land they own: the more they have, the heavier the taxes they should shoulder.
Our country’s richest have capitalised on the country’s resources for far too long already.
