American label Halston Heritage brings back the glitter of 1970’s New York with a pre-spring 2015 collection of colourful evening gowns, sequinned pants and sleek jumpsuits that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the glamorous clients at the iconic Studio 54 nightclub.
Distributed in Thailand by Creative Luxury Concept and showcased in a mini fashion show at the Halston Lounge at Central Chidlom, the new Halston Heritage collection re-imagines classic designs from the Halston archives.
Founder Roy Halston Frowick was a pioneer of luxury American fashion and his groundbreaking designs still influence and inspire today. A former milliner and the man behind Jackie Kennedy’s famed pillbox hat, Frowick founded the Halston ready-to-wear label in the 1960s and used his signature materials of jersey, cashmere and suede to reinvent the jumpsuit, the shirtdress and the classic caftan, permanently leaving his mark on fashion.
Once dubbed “the premier fashion designer in America” by Newsweek, Halston was synonymous with the 1970s and the era of Studio 54. His strong connection to pop culture was evident by his friends and clients, who included Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor and Anjelica Huston. Halston went on to create one of the best-selling fragrances of all time in his signature tear-drop shaped perfume bottle designed by Elsa Peretti.
Today Halston Heritage is an approachable luxury lifestyle brand – mixing legacy codes with a modern edge to create an effortless women’s collection of dresses, handbags, footwear and small leather goods.
The collection re-imagines some of Halston’s most innovative and iconic designs, marrying vintage elegance with a modern aesthetic to create a sophisticated yet sensual wardrobe for today’s Halston woman.
The reinvention of the caftan is a strong theme throughout the pre-spring 15 collection, interpreted in tops, dresses and gowns, combining fluid fabrics and soft geometric shapes, paying homage to one of the most heritage items of Halston’s original design. Worn over pants or on its own, belted or free flowing, the caftan is a versatile piece that can be styled in innovative ways.
Layering is the key to creating an effortless, feminine look this season. Flowing blouses and lofty sweaters are paired with impeccably tailored bottoms, while lightweight chiffon and georgette scarves worn as an accessory add an elegant finished touch. Stunning replicas of original scarves pulled from the Halston archive are printed on exquisite silks. Luxurious, supple suede jackets and skirts are injected throughout the collection and will continue through Spring – perfect pieces to complete the Halston look.
Attention to detail in multi-needle stitching, French binding and rich leather buckles and tabs add an unexpected element that is both chic and functional. Organic, dimensional drapes and asymmetric lines play on proportion and create body-skimming silhouettes.
Sophisticated pops of lipstick red, chambray and sky blue layer beautifully into a palette of neutral shades including camel, gravel, asphalt, and dark bone. Refreshing melon and blush hues add lightness, giving a first taste of spring. Novel scarf border prints and abstract reptile patterns add texture and dimension while acting as anchors to the colour palette. Halston’s ombre prints are also prominent.
