Why the delay on police reform?

By all means, top cop Police General Somyot Pumpunmuang should make sure that police serving as bodyguards for VIPs or politicians stick to department regulations.

But he should put first things first. In public surveys, the Royal Thai Police regularly top the list of the most corrupt public agencies.  Surely the former Central Investigation Bureau chief and his gang weren’t the only rogue masterminds in the force?
Premier Prayut Chan-o-cha has had absolute power for nine months and still hasn’t given us the top-to-bottom reform that the police force needs. He should immediately review, update and implement the recommendations made by the commission under Police General Vasit Dejkunchorn. These include boosting compensation for the lower ranks and making precinct operations more autonomous, problem-focused and community-oriented.
