GRAPH CAFE and Haiku Guesthouse, one of Sangkhla Buri’s most popular hang outs for coffee and value accommodation, packed its bags last year and headed north where it has now morphed into an Italian-style restaurant.
Owners Karueporn and Ajaree Satrabhaya had long dreamed of moving to Chiang Mai and their new business, known as Graph Table, is already drawing in the crowds.
Tucked behind a local fresh market and a row of small guesthouses and Thai massage shops, the new eatery is a haven of peace in the often chaotic northern city and offers its patrons a good selection of delectable home-made Italian and western dishes as well as terrific coffee.
“We opened Graph Table in March. Like our former place, it’s designed to be simple, friendly and good value. We offer a range of easy-to-eat western dishes that can be ordered at any time of day,” Karueporn says.
Decorated in plain black and white with wooden tables and long benches, a restaurant has much the same ambience as its early incarnation. Ajaree is in charge in the kitchen and says she learned her craft from an Italian friend.
Only the best ingredients are used, among them fresh tomatoes for the rich pasta sauce and exactly the right proportions of yeast, sugar and salt to ensure the perfect pizza.
Customers can start the day with her Post Modern (Bt120), eggs Benedict served with Debonedemilano ham on toast or linger over a lunch of Linguine Bacon (Bt160) spiced with garlic and chilli. Capricosa Pizza (Bt260), topped with ham, mushroom and olives, is made for sharing while hungrier mortals can chow down on Fettuccine Bolognese (Bt180) served with mashed pork.
Patrons can quench their thirst with Yellow Grass Weekend (Bt85), which blends passion fruit with cinnamon and lemon, while caffeine addicts can check out the selection of hot and cold java juice made from beans grown in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lamphun.
