Ill-informed bravado

The 14 detained student protesters, in coming out with bravado to attack the 2014 coup, should have done so in a better-informed manner. They could be terribly wrong in the notion that, since they stand on the side of "democracy", whatever they do must be

Thai students had been absent from national politics for a long time, so when they showed up this time, people were suspicious about their intentions, as well as their intelligence. Democracy is not the solution so long as the country is still in a massive mess. We must clean up the mess first, taking into account all the evils that preceded the coup – the accumulation of war weapons used in the brutal killings of people and small children in the streets of Bangkok, the chronic and massive corruption, and the “tyranny of the majority”. Only then can we get on with real democracy. What Thais need now are harmony and oneness – not divisiveness.
