Santa Claus is coming to town! And maybe you’re flying around the world too for the holidays. In that case, keep in mind that flying can take a toll on your skin, especially on long flights.
If you want to look fresh on arrival and look your best in photos that remind you of the good times, these easy tips might help.
* Prep your skin before your flight. To avoid dehydration, have a skincare treatment before you fly. Swap out your daily facial routine with a gentle exfoliation and skin rejuvenation. Dermatologists can exfoliate dead cells that prevent any moisturiser from absorbing.
And then boost your radiance by delivering vitamins, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants into the skin to stimulate rejuvenation. These treatments are ideally done a day or two before your travel date. They will re-hydrate and revitalise your skin once you’re on the plane.
* Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! Before you leave your house, apply a facial moisturiser. And keep one in your bag so you can reapply as needed.
When travelling to warmer places, a water-based or gel moisturiser can cool the skin while keeping it hydrated. For cooler, drier places, a thicker, cream-based moisturiser is better. For extremely cold places, oil-based moisturisers might even be needed.
* Don’t forget your lips. Because the skin there is so delicate, moisture evaporates more quickly, leading to dry lips. Pamper your lips with a soothing balm, preferably with SPF 30, and reapply it frequently, especially in cold, windy areas. Drinking plenty of water will also help in maintaining moisture of your lips.
* A smart menu for saves skin: Your diet has a huge impact on your skin condition. You should avoid starchy vegetables and refined carbohydrates like white bread and rice and instead opt for foods high in Omega 3 and fatty acids like avocados and salmon to help give you the youthful glow.
* For long-haul flights, you might need to refrain from drinking too much coffee or tea or that free wine. These are diuretics, which will make you urinate several times during a flight and thus cause some dehydration and drying of the skin. Instead, request drinking water after finishing your favourite drink.
Also, you should go for a snack with considerably less sodium, since salty snacks will draw moisture away from the skin and cause swelling and bloating.
These four tips are hardly “secrets”. All you need is to do a little planning before your flight.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all!
