Once again the average person, who likes to eat meat, fish or fowl, and reads the newspaper must be chastised by the Dynamic Duo of “Animal rights”, whatever the hell that is. JC tried to outrage our sensibilities by tales of food workers enjoying themselves kicking and beating animals and Erik (sic) managed to bestow upon himself attributes such as humane and courageous.
Let me explain yet one more time how it works. No one enjoys abusing animals or killing them as brutally as possible.. What you have is a situation where people want to eat meat, fish and fowl, so you have a massive market place for it. Someone has to supply that market, so companies emerge who try to fill the demand. Because the demand is so massive and constant, it requires the farming of animals and fowl and a huge fishing industry. The people running those industries have to operate as efficiently and cheaply as possible, because there is also a lot of competition so consequently, some establish policy that is sometimes brutal to animals and fowl.
Both of you are correct if you choose to picket or police the food industry to try to eliminate cruel farming or slaughtering techniques because there are bad people in all industries, but that is where it should cease.
Continually writing letters to try to enlist everyone to your cause is pointless and annoying because we are not going to stop consuming our “sentient”, as JC refers to them, co-inhibitors of Earth. We are not, firstly because we enjoy it, but more importantly, secondly, because if we all did stop consuming meat, fish and fowl, we would all starve to death within six months. We began eating animals, fish and fowl thousands of years ago because the availability of vegetables and fruits was just not there and as the centuries have gone by and the population of the Earth increased, the problem has not been solved. There simply isn’t enough arable land, water, proper conditions and transportation to produce and distribute enough vegetables, fruits and nuts to feed five or six billion people, so we eat animals. And because we have been doing it for centuries, we have not only become accustomed to it, but we have become dependent on it. We know it is not pleasant the way the animals must be terminated so we choose not to think about it and let the people that are willing to do it, do as they must.
Now that is how it is gentlemen, so please give it a rest. Go after those that you feel you have to, but leave the consumer alone. He or she is simply doing as his mommy and daddy taught him to.
Is that basic enough for you to understand?
