Victorious Day for Thais at Wimbledon Qualifying.

It was a good day for Thai players at Wimbledon as all fours won their qualifying matches on Wednesday.

In the women’s singles second qualifying round, Thai No 1 Luksika Kumkhum came back from a set deficit to eliminate  Ashleigh Barty of Australia 3-6 6-4 6-2 in one hour and 29 minutes.

“She started the match well and served well which did not give me momentum,” said Luksika No 170 in the world.

“Then in the second set we held serves until I started intensifying the attack for a late break to level the match. From then on she started missing until I was leading 4-0. She began to fight back but I managed to pull it off in the end,” said Luksika who will take on former Bangkok Open champion Vania King of the US in the final qualifying round.

“This is going to be a tough match for me. There’s nothing to lose at this point. I will fight as hard as I can.”

In the men’s doubles first qualifying actions, Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana beat Liam Broady and Darren Walsh of Great Britain 3-6 6-4 6-0 for a second round match against German Dustin Brown and Jan-Lennard Struff.

In the women’s doubles first qualifying round, Varatchaya Wongteanchai and Australian Jessica Moore, seeded eighth, beat Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland and Carina Witthoeft of Germany 6-4 7-6 (7-3).  The Thai-Australian duo will next play second seeded Elise Mertens and An-Sophie Mestach of Belgium.
